PGS / Dean's Message

Dean's Message

It is with great pride that I introduce the Bachelor of Arts Program in Political Science (Public Policy, Global Affairs, and Society), or PGS, an international program offered by the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University. This program reflects our commitment to academic excellence, global engagement, and the cultivation of future leaders equipped to navigate an increasingly complex world.

In an era defined by rapid transformations in politics, economics, society, and technology, the challenges we face are no longer confined within national borders. Issues such as climate change, inequality, digital transformation, and geopolitical uncertainty demand not only knowledge but also the capacity for critical thinking, interdisciplinary analysis, and ethical leadership. In a world where knowledge evolves rapidly and can quickly become obsolete, it is equally essential that our students develop resilience. They must be able to adapt, to learn continuously, and to take on complex and demanding challenges with confidence. This program has been thoughtfully designed to respond to these realities by drawing upon political science as its core discipline, within which public policy, global affairs, and society are examined as integral areas of study, alongside relevant interdisciplinary perspectives.

A distinctive feature of the PGS program is its international orientation, particularly through its double-degree partnerships with leading global institutions. These partnerships require students to meet two sets of academic standards in order to earn two degrees, one from Chulalongkorn University and one from a partner university abroad. Through this rigorous process, students gain invaluable exposure to diverse academic traditions, cultures, and policy environments. Such experiences are essential in shaping graduates who embody global citizenship and who are both globally competent and deeply aware of local and regional contexts.

At the Faculty of Political Science, we uphold a long-standing philosophy that emphasizes public service and devotion to the common good. This reflects the spirit that those engaged in governance and public affairs must be prepared to dedicate themselves to society with integrity, responsibility, and a willingness to serve others. Education, therefore, must go beyond the transmission of knowledge. It must inspire intellectual curiosity, foster a strong sense of public responsibility, and cultivate graduates who are committed to contributing meaningfully to society while upholding democratic values and social justice.

I warmly invite you to join this dynamic academic community and to embark on a transformative journey of learning, discovery, and impact.

Associate Professor Prakorn Siriprakob, Ph.D. Dean, Faculty of Political Science Chulalongkorn University
